1. Have you see the new Burger King Spongebob ads?

YouTube links:

Long version

Yes, I know I could embed. But then, for courtesy, I'd have to put them under a cut. And then you'd have to click a link to load them anyway. So... what's the point?

WIF?

I mean, Spongebob alone is bad enough. But it's a kids' show! And they're promoting it with that? I mean, it's not shocking or anything. I'm not that much of a prude, and there are much worse ads in the "exploit women's sexuality to sell a product" department. But... I don't like Spongebob or exploitation, and putting the two together just adds a whole new level of wrong.

/me goes off to watch Table Be Round (Robot Chicken, TV MA) instead.

2. Public notice: Sometimes, I can be an idiot. (No, this is not about anything specific.) Sometimes, it's because I'm human, and humans are prone to doing stupid things from time to time. Sometimes, it's because I have a bunch of sleeping disorders, and they can make me extra prone to being stupid. Sometimes, it's because of both. In any case...

If you catch me being an idiot, please let me know. Really, I'd rather know and try to learn from it and try to fix it than just having it left to cause further harm.

3. I do not curse. Just to let you know. If you curse, that's your thing. Me, I try to save those words for when they're really needed. (Upon nearly being killed by a driver swerving into my lane for no reason: "Oh, hell and fragnation!") So when I write "WIF?" it's not a typo. It stands for "What In Fragnation?"

4. In case you haven't come across it, I set up a New Account Fairy post over at [community profile] dwrocks. If you don't have a Dreamwidth account and want one, check it out. If you know of someone who wants one, point them there. If you have $3 to spare and want to help make Dreamwidth a little more awesome, take a look at the comments there. Feel free to spread the word on DW, LJ, Twitter, or whatever.

hmm, I guess for me it would depend on what time of the day that advert was being shown. Sure its for a kids meal, but if its being advertised to parents during prime time or something, to get them to buy their kids the meal, then I don't see a huge problem. If however it was being shown during a kids show, I might have a greater concern.

Interesting fact: Burger King is called Hungry Jack's here.

On the Burger King commercial, I'm going to go with....ewwww. I don't care if they only air that at night when adults are watching - that is NOT the way to advertise kid's meals. And if they do it during the day? Even worse.

Thanks for pointing it out so I can boycott BK for a while. :)

Oo, how did you get the DW icon and link in this post?

And I'll definitely link people there!

It's automatic! Crossposter was updated a few days ago, and now it converts DW user links when it posts to LJ!

Please do spread the word. And let people know that commenting now works...

*sigh*

Turns out that even though the comm was set to allow anyone to post, there was another setting, buried in a menu I hadn't even seen, that disabled anonymous and OpenID comments!

Actually, I don't have a twitter, but if you could let people know there, I'd appreciate it.

Cool about the link! Did you do the username= thing in the original post?

And sure, I will link on Twitter. :)

Yep. [user name=dwrocks] and DW took care of the rest! :)

Thanks. :)

I thought it was a kids' show too--not that I watch it or anything! But I have to agree, pairing an ad exploiting women's sexuality with a promotion for a kids' show is definitely a new level of wrong. :/
