So, as mentioned, I got a postcard in the mail yesterday. :)

Not just any postcard (although getting actual mail from friends is always very cool), but a handmade original artwork by the lovely, charming, creative, and talented Miss Crustacean (aka [livejournal.com profile] alliegee), who, despite the title, does not seem to be very crabby at all.

Take a look. Isn't it nifty?

Those lines are staples, which hold in an actual printed picture (remember those?). The rest is hand-painted watercolors, rubber stamping, and glued-on collage (which really makes it a mixed medium piece). The whole thing has a cool texture to it, too. It's thick, quality, textured card paper. (You can see it better in the full-size image.)

It's really neat. And the message on the other side is written (mostly) on a half-postcard-sized sticker. Hadn't noticed that at first, but it's cool.

Yay for creative mail, and the lost art of postcards!

Woohoo - this looks really cool :)
Yay for nice postcards!

I never quite knew how to ask but if you're a fan of actual mail, too, there might be chances for you to get a nifty postcard from the Netherlands next week.
Just, you know, I'd need your address for that ;)

Oooh! How cool! ...though I suddenly feel cheap for sending such an ordinary one from Alaska last month. Ah well. Next time!

Hey, an ordinary postcard (and how can it be ordinary, coming from a friend?) is way better than no postcard. These are just something [livejournal.com profile] alliegee does. She's a crafty sort. But yes, very cool. And thanks again for the Alaska one! :)

YAY! I am so glad it got to you safe and sound, and you like it!!! :) GET SET! (For what, I wonder..?)

Yep, thanks! It's really cool! :)

But yes, I had been wondering about what I was supposed to "GET SET" for... Any comments from the artist?

Well, honestly, it was more of an aesthetic decision than a content decision!! I have been scrapbooking for many years and I have a file of words and phrases cut out of magazines. I sifted through that file to select the phrases for my postcards. I have had this "GET SET" for a long time and I think it is really cool looking, plus the colors looked nice with the watercolor and the stamping. So, there's no real "reason." But if you like, you can make up an interesting story!!

lol, gotcha. Cool.

(But does this mean there's no giant squid attack looming in my near future?)

wow, that's pretty cool. i am suddenly inspired to send postcards (if not letters) to my friends. sadly, that feeling probably wont last the amount of time it would take me to track down yall's addresses and such ;p

Isn't it just?

And hey, if you need the address, let me know. ;)

(Which reminds me... I never did anything with yours. I forgot. I'm sorry. :( )

From: [identity profile] beansideirae.livejournal.com

welllll, if you send me your address i'm a lot more likely to use it than if you didnt :)

it's fine. you had a good excuse ;p

lol, good point

And yeah, I did. But perhaps... Hmm, if I send something now, it won't arrive in time. Probably won't even ship until The Day. How about you update your wishlist after opening presents, and I'll take another look at it?

From: [identity profile] beansideirae.livejournal.com

i can do that, if you want me to. dont want you to feel obligated or anything.

Well, to paraphrase a friend of mine, I'm more likely to do something with it if you update the list than if you don't. No guarantees, but we'll see what comes up...
