You all know the rules by now. For maximum fun, I suggest you read first, guess as best you can, post, and only then see what everyone else has said. But... whatever works for you.

Skipping those that have come up before. (Can you believe it? Strwaberry Fields came up second again... And tenth, too! WMP must love that song, even though I hardly play it anymore...) Also, it's kind of annoying when your favorite lyric is the title of the song. Happens far too often with me.

1. Some boys try and some boys lie, but I don't let them play. (No way, no way!) Only boys that save their pennies make my rainy day... (brianamj and vigii)

2. (This one's a little obscure, I think, so I'll give you two.)
It's a never-ending attack. Everything's a lie, and that's a fact.
Later: What about your gods? They're defective! They forgot the warentee!
(brianamj)

3. Sitting on the sofa on a Sunday afternoon. Listning to the candidates debate. Laugh about it, shout about it when you've got to choose. Any way you look at it, you lose. (vigii)

No one?

What if I add a bonus line?

"Hide it in a hiding place where no one ever goes. Put it in your pantry with the cupcakes..."

4. Let me reach, let me beach, on the shores of Tripoli. Let me sail, let me sail, let me crash upon your shore... (brianamj and kaylle)

5. One man caught on a barbed wire fence. One man, he resists. One man washed on an empty beach. One man betrayed with a kiss... (kaylle)

6. How could she say to me "love will find a way?" Gather 'round, all you clowns, let me hear you say... (Hint: There are two others songs by the same band on this list.) (vigii)

7. Her name was Magill, she called herself Lil, but everyone knew her as Nancy... (kaylle)

8. I told that girl I could start right away. She said, "Listen, babe, I've got something to say. I've got no car, and it's breakin' my heart... But I found a driver, and that's a start!" (kaylle)

9. Have you ever had the odds go so high, you need a strength you just don't possess? Or has it ever come down to do or die, you've got to rise above the rest? No? Well... (Can't think of a good hint here. The rest of the chorus has the title all over it, and the band was one of those late 90s one-hit wonders.)

10. I can go where no one else can go, I know what no one else knows. Here I am just a-drownin' in the rain... (ksarasara got the title and some bonus lyrics, but the wrong band. brianamj got the band.)

11. All I want is someone I can't even resist. I know all I need to know by the way that I got kissed... (Hint, from a bit later in the song: "... now I'm dying to forget you. Your love is sweet misery...")

12. I must be strong, and carry on. Because I know I don't belong here in heaven... (kaylle and ksarasara)

13. There is freedom within. There is freedom without. Try to catch the deluge in a paper cup... (kaylle and vigii... vigii named the original band, who made the version I have, and kaylle named the band who covered it. But, really, since we're only guessing based on lyrics, knowing the cover band should count just as much.)

14. Don't throw your hand. Oh, now. Don't throw your hand. When you feel like you're alone. No, no, no. You're not alone. (annabtg)

15. Dsarlin', won't you ease my worried mind? (annabtg and kaylle)

16. Conversation has a time and place in the interaction of a lover and a mate, but the time of talking, using symbols, using words, can be likened to a deep sea diver who was swimming with a raincoat. (kaylle)

17. So I turn the radio on, I turn the radio up, and this woman was singing my song. Lovers in love, and the others run away. Lover is cryin' 'cuz the other won't stay. Somebody's hoverin', waitin' for the other, who was dyin' since the day they were born... Well, well, this is not that. (ksarasara, who gets bonus points for naming the original band and the album on which the song was first released)

18. If you're goin' my way, I want to drive it all night long... (kaylle got the title, but not the artist)

19. Hang on to your hopes, my friend. That's an easy thing to say, but if your hopes should pass away, simply pretend that you can build them again... (Hint: The band has been named, though with the wrong number next to them...)

20. Everybody needs somebody to love. (Mother, mother...) Everybody needs somebody to hate. (Please believe me...) Everybody's bitching 'cause they can't get enough and it's hard to hold on when there's no one to lean on... (vigii)

Well, hopefully that won't be too bad. There are some where I had to go out of my way to avoid the title (which is repeated in the lyrics fairly often). There are a couple of bands I had to look up. Less variety than I might have liked, too, but... oh well. I played by the rules. No skipping unless (a) it's come up before (b) it's not actually a song. Let's see what you can do. :)

1. Madonna - Material Girl
2. Meat Loaf - Life is a Lemon and I want my money back. Not that obscure!
4. Orinoco Flow. I only know of two artists - Enya and Celtic Women
7 sounds familiar, but can't place it. So does 17. 18 sounds like an 80's song, but can't remember too much.

1. Yes. :)

2. Well, it's not one of Meat's better-known songs...

4. Hadn't heard of Celtic Women, but you're right about Enya.

Kaylle got 7 and 18. 17 is from the mid-90s or so.

Yay, more song-guessing! This is real fun *g*

14. Everybody Hurts, by R.E.M.?

15. Layla, by Eric Clapton.

And, that's about all I know, but it was still fun :)

See ya,
Anna :)

4. Orinoco Flow, by Enya (I think)
5. Pride (In the Name of Love), by U2 (we all seem to like U2 {g})
7. Rocky Raccoon, by the Beatles (although I'll admit I wouldn't have known the lyrics if it weren't for your video ;))
8. Drive My Car, also by the Beatles
12. Tears in Heaven, by Eric Clapton
13. Don't Dream It's Over... the version I have is Sixpence None the Richer, but I know there was another group that did it originally, I just don't remember who they were...
15. Layla! Eric Clapton. Oooh, I love that song.
16. Ooh, what was this song called? It's the first song on the first Savage Garden album, iirc... I Want You? (okay, I just checked, but since I guessed right anyway I figure that wasn't really cheating {g})
18. I think this is Life is a Highway? But I don't know who it's by

I still love this game :)

Wow, you got a lot. And it's all right!

5. Aww. I like a lot of things, but yeah, I definitely like U2. ;)

7. Yeah, I was kind of (egotistically) hoping someone would remember the vid. ;) Thanks. *g*

8. Yeah, WMP seemed to go on a brief Beatles kick. I think I got Strawberry Fields again a song or two later, too...

13. There is an older version, which is what I have, but I had to look up the band (again) and I don't recall ever hearing of them before.

15. Yeah, I love that song, too. :)

Anyway, good job! You're definitely in the lead. *g* (Hey, what do you know? Our infamous mirror image tastes don't extend to music... Cool. :) )

Correct on all counts!

But what do you mean you added me? Nothing shows up on my end...

Don't worry. It happens. (I had a blackout tonight, actually. Mid-IM convo. How rude!)

9. Have you ever had the odds go so high, you need a strength you just don't possess? Or has it ever come down to do or die, you've got to rise above the rest? No? Well...

Hmm... this sounds possibly familiar. Or maybe I just like the lyrics.

10. With a ticket for a RUNAWAY TRAIN!! Runaway train never going back. Wrong way on a one way track. Seems like I should be getting somewhere. Somehow I'm neither here nor there. Runaway train tearing up the tracks...

I love this song... how come I don't know who it's by? I want to say Richard Marx, but I'm not sure. And... every time I hear this, I think of Clark (or maybe alt Clark, can't remember...). I keep thinking video! But I don't think there are enough clips...

12. Tears in Heaven - Eric Clapton

13. Dangit... I *know* this song. "deluge in a paper cup" I *know* that.... and I'm drawing a blank (well, other than the big U2 flashing in my head... but I'm not sure about that...)

15. I know this one too... but nothing's springing to mind. (which might have something to do with the fact that my mind's a bit absent at the moment...)

17. So I turn the radio on, I turn the radio up, and this woman was singing my song. Lovers in love, and the others run away. Lover is cryin' 'cuz the other won't stay. Somebody's hoverin', waitin' for the other, who was dyin' since the day they were born... Well, well, this is not that thing that I'm throwing, but I'm thrown. I thought I'd live forever, but now I'm not so sure. You try to tell me that I'm clever, but that won't take me anyhow or anywhere with you. And you say, I only hear what I want to. I don't listen hard. I don't pay attention to the distance that you're running to anyone, anywhere. I don't understand if you really care, I'm only hearing negative. No, no, no bad.

*cough*... I'm in a singing mood. *g* (and I think I've got the wrong verse up there, maybe...). Love this... I need to remember to sing it at karaoke again. Haven't done it in a while. Stay (I Missed You) by Lisa Loeb and the Nine Stories (on the Reality Bites soundtrack *g*)

18. Hmm... the "all night long sticks in my head... and gives me a tune that leads into an instrumental break, which just isn't any help. *g* I want to say it reminds me of Phil Collins... but that's probably wrong, and I'm not sure I have the right song in my head anyway. *g*

20. Hmm... I've got a song stuck in my head that I'm sure isn't the right one... "Don't you want somebody to love? Don't you need somebody to love?" or something like that...

9. Is a few years old, but it was one of those chart-topping "overplay the heck out of it until everyone gets sick of it and then let it fade away" hits. So, you'd be familliar, but it's been a while...

10. Right lyrics! Good job! Right title, too! ... But wrong band. Nice try, though. :) I think that deserves some bonus points.

12. Yup!

13. Nope. Definitely not U2.

15. Yeah, you probably know this. Thing is, I only gave you one short line. From the end of the chorus, but still...

17. lol! A bit mangled, but good job! And yeah, right on artist and title, including the full band (who disappeared when she launched her own album).

18. "All night long," I'm sure, is used in a lot of songs. This one, however, is about as far from Phil Collins as you (or at least I) can get. These aren't lyrics you croon. They're lyrics you shout.

20. Nope. That song is "A Little Help From My Friends" by The Beatles. Which the one I quoted definitely isn't. Sorry.

Good job overall, though. Yay for lyrics. They're fun. :)

I'll pick up #10. Runaway Train is done by Soul Asylum.

From: [identity profile] viqii.livejournal.com

20.Keep the faith - Bon Jovi?

can't think of any other...
ext_3159: HatMan (Default)

From: [identity profile] pgwfolc.livejournal.com

Yes, well done! I was afraid no one was going to get that one. So hard because, really, the only lyric I know reasonably well in the song is the title itself...

From: [identity profile] viqii.livejournal.com

6.The beatles - You've got to hide your love away
3. Mrs. Robinson - Simon and Garfunkel (OMG! i don't undertand how i didn't recognize that song! a classic.. love ir. (L))
