(In a mysterious, imposing, shadowy room...)

"Comedic Agent #157, your delivery has failed. There can be only one response."

"No! Not the Sarcastic Rimshot! It's the sound effect of doom!!"

I don't know if you mean the rimshot that's typically heard after a joke, the one they think is necessary for people to get this was a joke...?

I have a semi-amusing story about that one. ;)

When I was in College, I had this friend (we're still friends now, actually) who would make jokes just as easily as he breathed. Bad puns, wise-ass retorts, idiotic blond jokes, you name it. They'd come out one after the other and we sometimes had trouble keeping up. For some reason, at one point, someone decided it would be funny to make that rimshot sound every time he made a joke. "trrrrrr-tsh" it sounds like.

I'm not exactly sure how it came to be, but we started calling the guy (this is in French now...) "Troutch" which is the closest "word" we could make using that sound. Twenty years later, we still call him that. Back when he worked in television, his name on the end credits would always read "Troutch" -- I bet if he had used his real name, no one would have known who it was. *lol*

And there you go. I have a friend whose nickname is actually a sound effect. hehehe!

"Not just the rimshot. No, Comedic Agent, the rimshot will be followed by the pelt of tomatoes, then the Cane of Grabbing!"

Oh noes! Masters, you are too cruel! Why not just get it over with and give me the Poison Pie of Perpetual Petrification?

No, that, my dear Agent, is the coup de grace. It cannot be torture if we just skip to dessert!
