(Note: This post is backdated so as to prevent it from showing up at the top of my journal.)

UPDATE: To make things simpler, I've moved the discussion to a super secret thread on the Goblins forum. The idea is still explained best here, but if you have thoughts or want to see the latest, go there.

As I write this, the Goblins fundraiser is nearing its goal. It's looking like they'll have the money to save their house. (ETA: THEY JUST DID!! And it was so beautiful to hear.) Thunt has said that if they manage to buy the house he'll set aside a wall for Goblins fans. We can send him stuff and he'll put it up on the wall. I want to make a poster/card from all of us.

When I say all of us, I mean all the fans. Whether you've donated or not. Thunt says that just reading the comic counts as support, and I think that's an excellent way of looking at it. Not everyone can afford to pitch in, but if you're reading, you're part of it.

Here's what I want to do: (UPDATED to reflect change in plans)

1. Create a banner which reads "WELCOME HOME". (Which is both a welcome to Thunt and family to their newly-purchased home, and a welcome to the fans to what Thunt has termed "the Goblins embassy" - a place which is home to all Goblins fans.) Get a different artist to draw/decorate each letter.

2. Get all of you to sign it. Send me a note. Your signature (real name and/or screen name, whatever suits) and maybe a couple of sentences. Whatever you'd say if you were signing a card. If you can, write something by hand and then send me a picture or a scan. If you can't, just send me the text. You can send it to imnotthunt at comcast dot net. I'll take them through July 31.

3. I'll paste the messages into a strip of whitespace below the WELCOME HOME lettering. I'm hoping/planning to make it about 4 inches tall, so that the final banner will be eight feet long and one foot tall.

4. After a reasonable timeframe (the end of the month?) I'll finalize the poster and send it to Thunt. I'll cover the printing costs. Then he can post it on the Goblins wall.

What I need from you: Your signature. Just write a note, take a picture, and email it over. It shouldn't take more than a few minutes. That's it. If you can't take a picture or aren't comfortable with using your actual signature, I will also happily take plain text. (You can also just make something with whatever graphics program you may have handy. Even MS Paint can handle text and/or a "pen.") Use your actual name, your screen name, an image that represents you, whatever you like. If you include a note, keep it short. Two or three sentences, perhaps. Like you would if you were signing a card. I'll take them through July 31.

What I also want: The signature is plenty. But if you're willing to draw a letter, that would be even better. (Take a look at page 2 of the forum thread for more information.) If you can think of anything else to offer (I've already heard from a printer), let me know. I want this to be the best it can be, and I want it to be from all of us. (ETA: ALL LETTERS CLAIMED!)

What do you say? If you're up for it, let me know.

If you like the idea, please repost the link to this page. Spread the word. I want as many people as possible. Preferably without Thunt seeing it, but that shouldn't be too hard given how busy he is right now.

Comments open to all, even if you don't have an LJ account. As mentioned, there's also the forum thread. You can send your signatures/notes and any questions to me at: imnotthunt at comcast dot net (Spaced out to defeat spambots.)

Re: Welcome home THunt

I'd also be willing to do some fan art. Altough, it'd be on a smaller-scale level. (Thunt said my name once, and it was like the greatest moment ever! which sounds a bit sad, and that's why it might be a fun piece of art.. tough not fanart.. )

The scene from scott pilgrim where young Neil's greatest moment ever was when Scott called him Neil comes to mind. Anyway, the point was, that's what that wall is there for! I think... O.o Errrhhhhhh

I don't need a whole background. What I'd actually like is to get several people willing to draw, and give each a piece of the background to do. The area behind/around each letter, perhaps.

Also, I'm not sure who you are, but I'd have to say "Thunt said my name once, and it was like the greatest moment ever!" would go very well on a card. ;)
