[past tense imaginary internet verb of your choice] from [livejournal.com profile] ladymirth:

"Alaska Women Reject Palin" Rally Is Huge

The rally was organized by a small group of women, talking over coffee...

Never, have I seen anything like it in my 17 and a half years living in Anchorage. The organizers had someone walk the rally with a counter, and they clicked off well over 1400 people (not including the 90 counter-demonstrators). This was the biggest political rally ever, in the history of the state. ...

So, if you’ve been doing the math… Yes. The Alaska Women Reject Palin rally was significantly bigger than Palin’s rally that got all the national media coverage!

What I'd love to know is how many of the people there were *conservatives* who rejected her. Obviously anyone voting for Obama isn't likely to be very supportive of her (and from a lot of the signs tieing in pro-choice, I suspect they're not conservatives, though that's not an absolute guarantee). I think it's disagreement between the people in the same camp that makes it more telling whether they're a bad choice or not. Do you have any info on that?

I don't know. I don't think anyone asked. For what it's worth, I saw at least one sign amongst the crowd which said something like "Voted for her once. Never again."

What I do know is this:

In 2000, Alaska voted for Bush over Gore 58.62% to 27.67%.

In 2004, Alaska voted for Bush over Kerry 61.07% to 35.52%.

The big rally organized to be a national media event, with the full resources of the Republican campaign, had about 1000 attendees.

This one, "organized" by a few women who decided to put up fliers around town, had over 1400.

Make of that what you will.
