Hey, flist...
Looking for a cool place to go to get away from it all for a while in June. "Cool" as in fun and nifty and such, but also as in "not blazing hot."
I want to get away from the areas I know well (NY, Philly, etc), but it's hard to choose from amongst the areas I don't know so well.
Looking for a place that's interesting, pleasant, comfortably warm, relatively dry (not humid), not prone to earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, etc., not too hard to reach by plane (neither too remote from airport nor too long a trip from NJ), and not too hard to explore for someone not familiar with the area.
Am considering Boston (which I know, but haven't been to in several years), Mystic (which I know and like, but not that well... though it is a bit of a trip from home, it could be worth it), Niagara Falls (again, been there, but not in years), Chicago (never been outside the airport - have no real idea what it's like), Toronto (never been, but I've heard some good things), someplace on the Great Lakes (ditto), and anyplace else you guys have to suggest.
Thoughts, comments, suggestions, pros, cons... whatever you've got, I'd love to hear it.
P.S. No offense, but this one time, I'm not looking to see you guys. Going to take a break from it all for a few days. Might even leave Jimmy (aka The HatComputer) behind. (*GASP!*)

From:
no subject
mystic: if that's what i think it is, i vaguely remember it as being fun...
chicago: lots to do, but it's dirty and crowded and traffic is crazy. be prepared to do lots of waiting for taxis etc. good museums tho, if you're into that. (probably not since it takes so much walking.)
toronto: i went once and it was amazing. so clean and pretty. i seriously want to move there now. it was also, when i went in july two years ago, over 100 degrees. granted there was a major heat wave going on everywhere else too.
great lakes: pretty (and yes, i live there) but...i think it would be a bit humid for you. and lake michigan never really does get quite warm enough to swim comfortably, if you were wondering. tho people do it anyway. but still, it's quite beautiful.
i dont really have any further suggestions, i was going to recommend toronto actually.
