Thanks for the comments and support, everyone. Sorry I'm not responding individually, but there are a lot of you and things are kind of crazy around here, as you can probably imagine, and here I am with a run-on sentence.

Anyway...

Yeah, it was pretty sudden. He seemed fine. Just a little tired. And he had just had his last pre-trip checkup earlier that day. Even when he got taken in to the hospital, I thought he'd pull out of it.

But, even so... it was quick and easy. And I'm glad Mom was around. She'd never have forgiven herself if it'd happened while we were on the road (we were supposed to leave almost exactly 24 hours after it happened). If it'd happened in Florida, it'd have been a different kind of mess. Or in Florida after Mom and I left. Or... Really, if he had to go, this was about the best time and way he could have picked.

Thanksgiving was nice, or as nice as it could be under the circumstances. There were some tears, having it without him, but we had the family together and the kids to keep us occupied and more food than we know what to do with. (Jewish tradition is to give food rather than flowers. It's all geared towards taking care of the family so they don't have to worry about anything and trying to take their minds of the bad things.)

Spent a while today trying to rearrange my airline ticket, since I won't be flying out of Florida. Expedia was willing to waive their fee. Delta would have waived their fee. But the ticket was bought with Expedia through US Air. And US Air wanted to charge $100, and would not back down. It was a non-refundable ticket and they don't have a grief clause. So... I'm going to write them a letter. They can make it up to me or I can tell everyone what heartless jerks they are and make sure that I, my family, and my friends never fly with them again. We'll see what comes of that.

That's about it. Hoping to have a nice quiet weekend at home. And then we have to figure out our new way of life. But that can wait a little while.
