C E Murphy (AKA [livejournal.com profile] mizkit) is among my favorite authors. She generally writes urban fantasy (magical things happening in modern cities - like the TV shows Gargoyles or Beauty and the Beast, or, in a way, like Harry Potter). As Cate Dermody, she also writes a series of spy/romance novels. Her main characters are women who get in over their heads and then, in their various ways, kick butt on the way up and out. (Think Lois Lane, pre-Superman.)

She writes beautifully. With heart. She has a gift for bringing her worlds to vivid life.

As a prize in a charity auction, I won the right to have my name used for a major supporting character in an upcoming series. That series will be her first foray into steampunk, which I'm certain will be awesome. Steampunk, when done right, is glorious, and her strengths as a writer fit the genre perfectly. (Just too bad that it'll be a while before it sees print. Worth the wait, though, I'm sure.)

Anyway, she's currently promoting her mailing list. It sends a monthly newsletter (and nothing else). Join now, and you have a 10% chance of winning a book from her (autographed, I presume, but she hasn't said). And, with the list membership drive going as well as it has been, she's promised to write a list-exclusive short story to be posted at the end of the year.

Just thought I'd pass that along in case any of you are interested.

It's whatever I ask for. But I gave her a number of options, and she actually likes the hyphenated first name. Said it'd be perfect for this book. Don't know which last name she'll choose, but I'm happy either way.
