It's winter. It'll be winter for another month. It hasn't snowed in weeks (in fact, we even had a good-sized rainstorm last week), but our back yard tonight looks like this:

Snow everywhere. The snow bank in our driveway, like many of the snow banks around town, is still over 4 feet tall. Highs this weekend are in the low 40s.

None of this is surprising.

What is surprising?

It was 70o outside today. 70. (That's 21, for those of you counting in degrees Celsius.)

My first reaction was, "WIF, Earth?"

Then I remembered. Of course the climate is screwed up. We messed it up ourselves.

HUH.

I'm not even sure that's a screwed up climate thing. I'm under the impression that the screwed up climate implies long-term changes (as opposed to rapid changes in weather). I could be wrong, though.

It may not be from that. You're right that climate change is more about long-term changes. However, it's also about a tendency towards more extreme weather (like the increase in winter storms this year) and perhaps a greater frequency of freak events like this.
