Had a lovely time at the Intrepid Museum in NYC with my nephew yesterday. They just got the (prototype) Space Shuttle Enterprise, and we got to go in and see it. While standing in line to get in, we walked across the flight deck, so I got to tell him some neat stuff about the various airplanes on display. The SR-71 Blackbird, the F-14 Tomcat, a plane equipped with AWACS radar, etc. All very cool.

But then we hit the gift shop, and I saw this. A doll of a Black woman dressed as an Air Force One flight attendant. Anyone else have any issues with that?

Yes, I'd have seen it the same if it was a White woman. I do wonder if she would have been Black if not for Obama, but I mostly mentioned her color because one of my LJ friends is blind. So I make sure to describe every photo I post.

You make a good point that it's a tough job to get. I don't mean to put down flight attendants in general, either. But it was just about the only female doll in the entire place. There are other important roles for women in our military.
