Deadpan:

A style of humor in which jokes are told with outwardly straight-faced seriousness but underlying ironic intent.

The Internet makes deadpan humor considerably easier to accomplish but trickier to accomplish well. Visual and vocal cues are hidden from the audience. This means that the teller doesn't have to actually maintain a straight face, but also that the audience may have a harder time seeing past the facade of sincerity.

For more information, see the previous post.

See also Stephen Colbert, and, in particular, his speech at the White House press dinner.

(What were they thinking inviting him? I can only assume that they fell prey to the aforementioned dangers and somehow thought that he actually was the ultra-conservative wingnut he pretends to be...)

*has a mental image of smurf brains all over from the smurf being split* ewwww. blue goop.

i personally believe the sky is black, and all other color is reflected on it. similar to what you said. but the sky *does* have a color, it's the color of space. the absence of color is still a color, in a sense.

can you define the universe and give two examples?

not sure if you're interested, but i made a welcome post on my blog for new people coming in (got a few right now); if you're planning to visit, might want to check it out :)

The universe: Everything that exists which vibrates with this quantum signature.

Examples: This one (look around, that's it), and... oh, let's say the counterpart to this one which coexists with ours but cannot move slower than the speed of light.

Welcome post: Thanks. Saw that on my flist when you put it up. Good to know. Meant to comment, but been a little distracted. And, really, wasn't sure what to say other than "thanks, good to know."

You're the only newbie here, so probably not worth making a similar post, but I'll echo the "ask me anything" bit. It's a standing rule here. I'll answer just about any question you're willing to ask, so long as doing so doesn't violate a confidence or something.

Anyway... Look forward to getting to know you better, but thanks for the primer.
