Hey, cool. Got a notice from Schmap travel guides that they've shortlisted one of my pictures for possible use in the next edition of their San Francisco guide. I don't get any money or anything from that, but still... Recognition, appreciation, potential usefulness.... Neat. :)

For the heck of it, I'll link to other pics from the trip, for your browsing pleasure. And day-by-day entries about the trip (including a small selection of those pics) are, like this entry, posted with the "roadtrip09" tag on LJ and DW.

I've had that too, and decided against letting them use my photos. Check it out carefully. Read the fine print. Google it and get the facts before you decide. Because while their freebie guides are free the fine print says that they reserve the right to use the image in their premium services too, and there is advertising on the site too (so Ive been told, I have ads blocked) which they earn revenue from.

For me, its nice to get a photo chosen, but if they are making any money at all from it, then I want a slice of the pie. Maybe that is picky of me, but there you go. I'm not trying to talk you out of it, just be informed first.

Thanks for the advice. I did read through the terms before accepting. (I also looked them up quickly before even clicking the link from an unsolicited email.)

Would be nice if they paid me, yes. But I'm happy just being useful and getting credit. It's not like I was going to make any money off that pic if I didn't let them use it.

Premium members should get everything that basic users do, so if they use my pic for basic, I have no issue with them also using it for premium.

And hey... DW relies entirely on user-generated content. Getting people to come to the site, use its features... all of that depends on what we give them for free. Not directly analogous, perhaps, but I think there's some validity to it.

I don't blame you for opting out, and I appreciate the insight. But I'm fine with opting in.
