Haven't seen this mentioned on my friends/reading page, so figured I'd bring it up.
Last week, Keith Olberman dedicated a full hour to a special comment on health reform. He concluded it by bringing up the National Association of Free Clinics. The group set up a one-day mass free clinic in Houston, Texas which you may have heard about on the news a couple of weeks ago. They were overwhelmed by the response. Thousands lined up before dawn.
Keith's idea is to do something similar in states with key Senate votes - Harry Reid, etc. At the worst, it would mean a gift of free health care for thousands of uninsured fellow citizens... which could literally be the difference between life and death for many. But it'll also highlight just how much those senators' constituents need real health reform, and may just help get them to vote for the people instead of the insurance lobby.
What's especially cool about the National Association of Free Clinics is that, because it's staffed by volunteers, for every $1 donated, they're able to give $5 worth of care.
