I'm back home. Didn't sleep too well while I was away, so spent the last couple of days resting and catching up.
Meantime, my comp's been acting up. Was working fine. Packed it up, flew out, got to the hotel, set it up, and... it wouldn't boot. I have a vague memory that it did something of the sort last time, about a year ago, but that time it was more of a fluke. Worked just fine the next day. This time... it seems the boot.ini file keeps getting corrupted. (The error message is about hal.dll, but it seems it's the boot.ini file that's actually the problem.) I found instructions online (once I got back home and could use the other comp) to fix it. Got the thing booted up... and then had the same problem again when I rebooted. System restore hasn't helped. Currently running security scans, but things so far seem to be clean. I've got a couple of other repair options, once the scans finish. At least I've got something to keep me busy for a while...
I guess that's about it for this entry. Feels like there should be more to say, but if so, I don't remember what it was.
Will try to get back into the swing of Dreamwidth once I get the comp sorted.

Seems like it's more a case of Windows coming unraveled. I'm also starting to have icons fail to show up in the system tray, which is what happened with my last laptop. Oh, and the virus scanner is acting a little odd. But the scans all show clean, so I'm thinking it's an install issue.
Luckily, I've got a fairly recent system backup, if it comes to that. But I think the next step will be to try to run a repair installation from the Windows system CD. Hopefully, that'll fix things. Without messing up anything else...
