Reasonably good day today. Went with Mom and Dad to a local park we hadn't visited in years. There was a place where the path led out to a little pier. Fish were literally jumping out of the water. Not sure why. My guess was to eat the bugs swarming about, but when I tossed some small seed pods out over the water, it didn't seem to get much reaction. Was cool, though. We stayed and watched for a few minutes.
And then came home for a duck dinner in honor of Rosh Hashanna.
Of course, for duck you need sauce. We'd gotten a few items with that in mind. And then we discovered that apparently citrus is so plentiful in Florida that local residents have it up the wazoo. Because the duck came with a packet of orange sauce inside. But I thought I'd have some fun anyway. Which turned out to be a good thing because the orange sauce was not very good at all.
At Dad's suggestion, I started with an apricot base (all fruit jelly). Thew in some fruit cocktail, mandarin oranges, pineapple chunks, and a bit of the juices. Oh, and a splash of honey. Blended it all up, and then at Mom's suggestion (after a taste test) threw in some ginger. Came out really well. I felt a bit bad opening so many cans for a quick sauce for three people, especially since I used so little from each one. But hey, it's new year's. And, really, it was worth it. Surprising, really, considering it's pretty much just blended up canned/jarred fruit.
So that's my thrilling news for the day. Happy and Sweet New Year to anyone celebrating. :)
