So, I was watching this movie last night, and tacked on to the beginning of the DVD was an anti-piracy ad. (Which, yes... is on YouTube. Gotta love irony.)

It was kind of stupid, but not as stupid as most such things. Used Wizard of Oz (the 1933 WB movie version) as a poorly-thought-out allegory for video piracy. We're told that Dorothy (and, presumably, her friends) pirated videos. Then we see Oz telling Dorothy & Co off, and them quaking in their sundry footwear. (The poorly-thought-out part comes in because Oz has no real power beyond trickery and illusion. And now the ad is on YouTube. So it may just be apt, after all...)

Then the ending caught my eye.

Remember...
Melting the Wicked Witch: Good
(*clip of poor Elphie's death scene*)
Pirating DVDs: Bad

That's just wrong. There was no call for that.

Maybe I should go out and pirate some DVDs. Come on, everybody! Let's do it for Elphaba!
