Just had to share that.

In other news, we got our first real decent snowfall in ages. Perfect for snowballs. The dog is very happy. Snowballs are the perfect "fetch" items. You can chase after them, but when you get there, you can eat them for a treat. And then, by the time you're done with that, there's a new one ready to be chased! Canine life doesn't get much better than that.

Well, "fetch" was in quotes. My dogs don't actually fetch. Depending on the dog (I've had three, one at a time) and the mood, what happens when you throw something:

1. "Yes! Something to chase! I love this game!" *woosh, grab, walk back* "Oh, you want it? Yeah? Just try. Come on, try! Here, I'll bring it a little closer. You've almost got it... Ha ha! Can't catch me! ... Oh, you think you've got it? Well, you'll have to fight me for it! Tug-of-war!!"

2. "Yes! A flying stick!! I'll get you, stick! There's no escaping me!! Ha, got you! ... Oh, you want it back, do you? No way. This is my prize. I caught it fair and square. You want one, get it yourself."

3. "Whee! Something to chase!!" *woosh* "Okay, I found it! It's over here. You want it, come and get it. Here, I'll mark the spot for you. And now for a leisurely stroll through the yard..."

4. "Okay, I got it! Here I am! But if you want it, you're going to have to... Ooo, what do you have there? Another one? Yeah, yeah! Throw it!" *drops the first one to run after the second* (This works until fatigue and/or boredom set in, in which case we revert to option 3.)

5. "Ooo, you magically produced a snowball! Throw it! Yeah, yeah! Come on!" *woosh* "Hey! Where'd it go? I saw the ball land here in this snow bank. But where is it?" *dig, dig* "Oh no! I lost it! I can't find it in all this snow!" *comes back* "We need another one! Make another one! Yeah, yeah! Now throw it! Come on! Throw it! Throw it!!" *woosh* "Hey, where'd it go??"

6. "Hey, a snow bank! Make me a snowball! Yeah! All right! Throw it for me! Woo-hoo!" *chase* "Whee! The whole world is covered in ice cubes!" *crunch, crunch* "Time for a roll in the snow!" *frollic* "Okay, I'm done with that one! Make me another!"
