I'm curious about something.

There are two songs I'm thinking of (both of which happen to have been released in the same year: 1982) - Safety Dance and 99 Red/Luft Balloons. (The latter song was released in both German and English. When they translated "99 luftballoons" into English, they added the word "red" to maintain the song's meter.)

The videos for both songs are available on YouTube. I'll put them here, under the cut, for your convenience. Actually, I'll give you two versions of each. English and German for 99 Red/Luft Balloons, the real Safety Dance, and, for the heck of it, a parody of the Safety Dance video which is pretty funny but has nothing to do with the rest of this post.

99 Red Balloons (English):

Safety Dance:

Safety Dance ("literal" parody):

Here's what I'd like to know: What do you think of those songs? And the videos? What are they about? What do you notice? I'll post soon (in the next couple of days) with what I'm thinking about, but I want to hear from you guys.

I want this to be a poll of sorts, so I'm going to screen comments for now. I'll unscreen them later (unless you ask me not to) when I make the next post. (And please, no cheating with Google or Wiki or whatever.)
