Went to bed for the day around 1pm. Shortly after 3, there was a knocking at my door. The dog is terrified of thunderstorms, and I was the only human in the house. So I let him (he's not usually allowed in my room) and petted him until he settled down near my bed. But I still couldn't get back to sleep. Eventually, Mom's cousin came back to give the dog his dinner. I escorted him out of my room and to the stairs. He hesitated a bit, but the noises downstairs encouraged him, and he went. Eventually, after being up for about two hours, I fell back asleep.
I dreamed that I was living on a space station. (I've been reading this sci-fi anthology, which teaches simple astronomical ideas through short stories.) At one point, a craft docked, and a guy delivered a large cardboard box. It was full of winter coats, mail, and assorted supplies. I gave the guy a short tour of the station. When the family woke up, I showed them the box. They were as surprised as I'd been to get a delivery that way. (And I was still a little confused about why we'd be needing winter coats on a space station, and wondered what that meant they thought we'd be in for.)
It turns out NASA had decided to save on fuel costs by having all space station supplies delivered by UPS.
That one fact stuck with me for the rest of the dream, and I resolved to remember it so I could post about it once I got up for the day. (I woke up a few more times during the "night.")
Speaking of astronomy and such, scientists predict the sun will go into "hybernation". It's not exactly clear to me what that will mean, other than fewer sunspots for the next 70 years or so (which will be good for our satellites, at least), but there's a chance it'll mean cooler temperatures. So maybe there's something to be said for global warming? At least in the very short term.
