#573: If you ask him, even if he has only the vaguest idea how, he will make you a stuffed tiger.

Mom came home tonight after a week away. I finished the last stitch just as we were supposed to leave to pick her up. (Dad kindly gave me an extra few minutes, which he made up on the highway.) I left him out so that I could show him off to Mom. Unfortunately, I left him too close to a care package that Dad had been sent. Mom was looking through that stuff (in relative darkness), then saw Hobbes. "OMG, what is that??!" she asked in horror. She'd thought someone had sent it to Dad. Oops.

She said nice things about it once she realized what it really was, insists she mistook it for professional quality. (In the dark, I'd believe her.) But, looking closer, she thinks I should redo some of the more visible stitching. (I'm proud of the job I did on the interior seams, but attaching the limbs and closing up the shoulders had to be done from the outside. Also proud of the satin stitching to make the mouth and the tight, nigh-invisible stitches that hold the nose on.) She's worried they'll wear out. Then again, I did the same with the bunny 9 years ago, and only now had to do repairs. Of course, my sister has taken pains to make sure it's always treated very gently.

For only my second stuffed animal (my first without instructions, and my first in 9 years), I'm pretty happy with how he turned out.
