Yesterday morning, the garage door got stuck. Fortunately, it's under warantee. So we called the repair company. They came out fairly quickly. Knocked on the front door to let us know they were there and would start work.

(It should be noted that the trees here bloomed this week. I am highly allergic to the pollen, and thus endeavored to keep the door open as little as possible.)

The dog heard the knocking and ran to the door, barking furiously. (Not angrily, but a rapid stream of barks and howls. "Hey, everyone, there's someone at the door!" and "Whoever you are, this is my territory. Just so you know." He's actually incredibly friendly - genetically hard-wired to be so. He barks a good game, but then, if he actually gets to anyone, instead of attacking, demands love and attention.)

I spoke to the guy, closed the door, calmed the dog.

Went to the back door to see if they needed anything. The dog heard the noise and came to the back door, barking furiously. I closed the door, calmed the dog. Stood there, trying to think if there was anything else I should do or needed to talk to the reparimen about.

(For the purposes of the conversation below, "..." is a pause of a few seconds. Italics are one notch quieter than regular type.)

WOOF!

"Calm down, it's okay. They're supposed to be here."

... WOOF!

"That's enough. It's fine. Relax."

... WOOF!

"Quiet. It's okay."

... WOOF!

"NO."

... WOOF.

"No."

... WOOF.

"No."

... WOOF.

"No."

... Woof.

"No."

... Woof.

"No."

... ... *pant, pant* woof

*ponder* *chuckle* "Oh... fine."

And then he was satisfied. Silly puppy.

With the permission of the comm owner, I just posted to [community profile] three_weeks_for_dw about the sponsorship idea.

In short, I'd like to see people pledge to sponsor N users with one month's paid time ($3 or 30 points), where N is whatever number you're comfortable with.

Alternatively (or in addition), you could "tip" posters based on what posts appeal to you.

More details (and hopefully some discussion) in the post linked above.

If you like the idea, please boost the signal.
