I'm not much for people who speak only in links, but I'm tired and have a bunch of interesting links to share. So a rare links post from me:

Right-Wing Bloggers Demand Apology From Lawmakers Called 'Nigger' By Tea Partyers

New poll of self-identified Republicans yields scary results

An open letter to conservatives

ACORN has declared bankruptcy. Too much baseless slander has caused their funding to collapse. They plan on reorganizing under a new name. Strangely, while the mainstream news stories on the subject mention the "pimp" video as a major reason for the bankruptcy, they fail to mention that it was a heavily-edited hoax.

Conservative David Frum on GOP's "Waterloo"

Handy timeline for the effects of health care reform

Not much for the group's phrasing, but there's a movement to stand up to textbook publishers who cater to a Texas-based far-right agenda.

I'm glad the bill passed. I'm sorry it got watered down so much. I'm sad about all the lies and fearmongering. I'm hopeful that we'll see more reforms as time goes on, including a real public option. There are too many issues with for-profit insurance and no real saving grace that I can see. They exist only as middlemen, looking out for their own profits while taking cuts from all sides. Doctors get reimbursed sometimes at or even below cost, patients get denied claims due to red tape and trickery... It's not helping anyone, and this bill doesn't go far enough to protecting us. But it's a good start.

Saw mentioned on my DW reading page and then on NASA's Twitter feed that Buzz Aldrin (the second man on the moon) will, aptly enough, be on Dancing With The Stars. (Brief NASA release, with video from the International Space Station.)

This is pretty cool. Who better to have Dancing With The Stars than an actual astronaut? But my first thought was Buzz Aldrin + Dancing = Moonwalk. (Or, at the least, the Bunny Hop? It's the name of a move used when walking on the moon as well as a dance.)

Now, as you may have heard, a fan movement on Facebook got Betty White to host Saturday Night Live. Started small, but some huge number of people signed on, and it happened. (Betty had been offered the opportunity back in the 80s, but had turned it down. This year, it was agreed that she would share hosting duties so as not to overtax herself.)

I'm thinking it could work for this situation. Someone needs to start a "Get Buzz Aldrin To Do The Moonwalk On DWTS" Facebook page. And then spread the word about it and get a million people to join. Someone who does not share my general disdain for Facebook. It would be epic. I would even watch DWTS for the first time to just to see it happen.
