Saw this story last night before I went to bed, but it's fallen off the front page since.

In a historically unprecedented (and rather ironic) move, Iran confiscated a Nobel Peace Prize medal.

Seems the government suddenly decided that the prize money, awarded with the medal in 2003, is not tax exempt, after all.

Shirin Ebadi, a human rights lawyer, was awarded the prize for her efforts to promote democracy. She is the first Iranian and first Muslim woman to have won the prize.

The medal was taken from her safe deposit box about three weeks ago, she says. News broke yesterday. Nobel committee was quick to condemn the move, of course, and, of course, the Iranian government responded by telling them that local tax enforcement is none of their business.
