No, Dave, you are not alone.

Transformers rocked.

My immediate review while exiting the theater: "Stuff went boom! *thumbsup*"

Okay, there were bits that didn't make sense. And more of them the more you think about things. But this is not a movie to stop and think about. This is a movie about giant transforming robots, action, and adventure.

There's a liberal dosage of comedy, very little blood, moderate gore (but always robot gore), and, every once in a while, one or more hot girls who mostly stay properly clothed (and even when less clothed, you don't see anything you wouldn't have seen if she'd been wearing a one-piece bathing suit). A few swear words I could have done without, but not many, and I am a little prudish about such things.

A bunch of new robots this time. Some of them get very little screen time, but they still manage to give a glimpse of personality. A lot of extras, though, with little or no personality. Especially on the Decepticon side. OTOH, as seen in the trailers (so I don't consider it a spoiler), the Constructicons are present, and that moment where they do their thing is awesome.

Going in, I was wondering how in the heck you make a movie like this that's two and a half hours, but coming out, it didn't feel like it had been nearly that long. There were bits I could have done without (like most of the college stuff), but they were short.

Jetfire. I love Jetfire. He would have stolen the whole show if he'd had more sceentime. Although, if he had, it could have been easily overdone. But man... I love Jetfire. Especially that line about the wheel. Quote cut, in case anyone considers it a spoiler. )

And the twins... Also could have been overdone, but I think we got just the right amount of them. They're like Jar Jar Binks, if you replaced all the dopey cuteness with over-the-top, self-parodying attitude. Comic relief done right.

Of course, not all the comedy was intentional. Some cliche melodrama and such. But, again, brief and infrequent. Enough time to laugh at it if you're so inclined and then we move on.

Move on to what? Giant robots fighting to the death, huge explosions, stuff getting smashed, running and shooting and something coming screaming out of nowhere to join the fray...

And yet with heart and glory and a sort of sense of fun.

If you ever sat for half an hour playing with transforming robots... go see this movie. It's the same thing, only bigger, longer, and more kickass.

Much better than the first movie.

An offscreen matter, though... The woman next to me brought her toddler son. To a 7:30 showing that got out after 10pm. She just sat there, watching the movie, with her leg pressed against the back of the seat in front of her. While he stood in front of her, barred from escape by her leg, shielded from the violence and sexuality by the fact that the back of the chair in front of him was taller than he was. Which left him standing in the dark, wide awake, with nothing to do but listen to the shooting and explosions and stuff. For two and a half hours. Except I think he did spend some time sitting in his seat, where he could see the violence and everything. I don't know. I couldn't see him all the time, and I was more focused on watching the movie. And if he made a sound at any point, I couldn't hear it.

I shouldn't judge. I don't know the rest of the story. It's certainly nowhere near as bad as the story Mom was telling me about one of Dad's new patients. And I know it gets worse than even that. But it seemed troubling. Entirely out of the realm of what my family considers proper parenting. And I wonder how he could be so quiet and complacent for so long with so little attention and so little to do.

Just spent over an hour on the phone with Dell, pointlessly retrying things I'd already done. I'd called up expecting to wind up with an appointment for next business day service (which is part of my service plan). But the first person, determining that I had a laptop and was therefore a second-class citizen, transferred me over to a guy with an Indian accent and a lot of call center noise in the background. He had me run some basic diagnostics and then attempt a System Restore (both of which I'd long since tried, among other things, but if I try to boot to anything but the most basic Safe Mode, it freezes up). When that failed to help, he said he would transfer me over to the software service department. Waited on hold, got a woman with an Indian accent and slightly less call center background noise. I started talking to her, having to go back over my information and the history of the problem... only to be told (after she said that I'd probably just have to reinstall Windows again) that help from her department is a paid service, beyond the scope of my current warranty. Well... crap. I guess I'll have to reinstall Windows again, cross my fingers, and hope that it doesn't start having all sorts of stupid errors again. Think I'll see if I can get my hands on some better CDs first.

Meantime, I'm tired and crabby. Haven't slept well the last couple of nights. Hoping that's just my body readjusting to being off the pills that were screwing up my sleep. Getting pretty tired of being tired and crabby, though.

Lost a couple of DW subscribers recently. (And have hardly gotten any comments on DW or LJ.) Which is sad but understandable. I have been going over my reading page, but haven't felt like I had anything to say. I just haven't been around, haven't been a friend, and have generally been feeling, as mentioned, tired and crabby. Hoping things will get better. We'll see how it goes, I guess.
