Need some advice.
As I mentioned before, I'm working on a script or two for a little something I call "Fast Food Theatre." (Or possibly "Theater." Minor thing, but advice on that appreciated, too.) The problem I'm having is figuring out how to go from script to video.
Now, as you may or may not have imagined, the cast will be made up of food items (and some related things like logos and mascots). The two main characters are a hamburger and a small order of french fries, but there are plenty of others. Including the Gorton's Fisherman.
There are different ways I could do this.
1. Buy the various food items, dress them up in minimalistic costumes, attach clear fishing line to key points, and shoot the video with marionettes. This could be tricky at points and it does involve wasting food. It also involves spending some (though hopefully not too much, at fast food prices) money. It also gives me some limits in shooting time, since the food will go bad. But that's hopefully not too big of an issue. It is a short script.
2. Draw everything, and use cut-outs (probably on sticks). Cheaper, less wasteful. In some ways easier. But... I'm not so much with the drawing. I don't know how it'd come out.
3. Same as above, only have someone else do the drawing for me. There are a few webcomic artists who do commissions, for example. Including Karen, the artist behind Planet Karen, who recently lost everything in an apartment fire and could certainly use a little extra money. (But I don't know if she has time. Or the proper set-up. Though, really, all of this can stand to wait.)
4. Same as 2, but use pictures. Steal promotional shots and whatever from the web, add the costuming on screen, print.
5. Same as 4, but without the printing. Just use still shots of the characters and cut back and forth. Easier, perhaps, but not as interesting. Especially since I don't have software capable of doing layered, animated images. But hey, it's just a silly video I'm doing for the heck of it.
6. Find a partner who is more graphically capable and let her do the work. Would have to be someone with time, experience, and an appreciation for food puns.
7. Other. Probably something I haven't thought of yet. Suggestions welcome.
The nice thing about having puppets is that I could use backgrounds. Probably 2D backgrounds, and I'm not sure what I'd really use, but the possibility exists. I don't have the software to add backgrounds to existing video.
Of course, the whole thing could be done using Flash. But... I don't have Flash. And I don't know how to use Flash. And I'm not much of a programmer in general. And I'd still need to create images.
Thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions?
