Had a good trip to Florida. Got to spend time with the family (except one bro-in-law). That was great. And, somehow, it wasn't nearly as humid as I'd feared. And it was the end of pollen season down there. Not so bad off the coast, either. So I got to miss a good chunk of pollen season up here in NJ. All in all, much as I'd dreaded it, it turned out really well.

We got back on Thursday, and then Saturday Mom and I drove up to Boston. Mom's friend (well, a family friend, but...) had a bday on Saturday, and was being honored at a local charity event. And I hadn't been up to Boston in years.

We had a good trip there, too.

Dinner in Boston Saturday night. Drove through downtown, working from gut, memory, compass, and a little inset map. Ended up at Copley Place and the Prudential Center (across the street, connected by a pedestrian walkway). Strolled around indoors, which was good since it was rainy and humid outside and I was having trouble walking within even 30 yards of the doors. Ended up eating at the Cheesecake Factory, but that's always good.

Sunday, I got to catch up with a couple of old college friends (they have an 8-month-old baby now!) I hadn't seen in at least 6 years. Was really good to catch up, if only for a few hours. Came back in time to have bday dinner with Mom and all. Spent the evening watching Masterpiece Theater, which was surprisingly amusing (probably because of the company). Mom's friend said it really made her day.

Monday, on the drive back, we stopped for a couple of hours in Mystic, just to wander around. There's a restaurant we like there, near the Seaport, but I wanted to go see the town. I hadn't been there since 8th grade, and Mom had no idea it was there at all. Turns out it's only a couple of blocks, but it's a very nice couple of blocks. Did some shopping. Bought a little bench for the kids, and a nifty spinning globe thing for Mom to give me for my bday. And then ended up having lunch at Mystic Pizza. It looks nothing like I remember it (expanded and remodeled a couple of times, which shouldn't really be that surprising), but it was really good. Mom was talking about it today, how good it was and how she didn't realize at first how good the details were - the texture of the crust, etc. Anyway... was a beautiful afternoon. :)

In other news... I'm getting a new pair of sunglasses. :) My eyes are very wind-sensitive, possibly because I don't have any eyelashes. But I found a brand of goggle-like specs, with eyecups that mold to your face. Not many places that carry them, but a couple in the area. Found a nice little shop not too far from here. Tried on a few pairs, and ordered myself a pair of these. Black frames (they looked dark brown to me), with slightly mirrored dark brown polarized lenses. I'd hoped to get them as my regular glasses (with transitions), but... they're sunglasses. Just don't look right with clear lenses. Still, as sunglasses, they should be really cool. :)
