Just voted in my first primary!
Well, not my first, really. I've been eligible before. This is my fourth presidential election (I voted for Clinton once and against Dubya twice). But I never felt compelled to bother with the primaries. I didn't feel like I knew enough to make an informed and helpful decision, and, for the most part, it was moot. By the time we had our primaries, the candidate was pretty much chosen. (Not to mention the times when I was in Boston, 300 miles away from my polling place.)
But this time... things aren't quite as clear. And I like Obama (and his chances for election). So I went and voted.
The polling place, as it happens, is literally across the street from my house. If I look straight out the back window, I can see the parking lot lights. Unfortunately (?), I can't just walk straight across the street. There's a patch of woods between our backyard and the street. Glad to have it for several reasons, but in this one instance, it was inconvenient. But hey, it just means more exercise, right?
I suppose I could have driven, but that seems silly. So I walked it. Down the driveway, around the block, and over. Basically four sides of a square. Took about 10 minutes each way. Further than I've gone in a while, especially in one go. And the humidity didn't really help my joints. At least it wasn't raining. And, really, it wasn't that bad. Today isn't a bad day, despite the humidity. I've had days where it was a lot worse just walking across the kitchen. Still, my triceps are sore, even with switching the cane from one side to the other when one arm got tired. I'm still not really used to using those muscles like that. And, as mentioned, not for extended periods.
So... voting and exercise. A good way to start the day. (I woke up around 6pm. Took some time for email and phone calls and stuff. Polls closed at 8. I made it with about 10 minutes to spare.)
Now to see how the voting went...
ETA: Looked at the returns so far, and... NM. I'll see how the voting went tomorrow, after the dust has settled. (Hillary does seem to have taken NJ, but I think NJ delegates might be proportional rather than all-or-nothing. Or maybe district-by-district.)
