You'd think we'd be past stuff like this by now.

Did you hear about Constance McMillen? She's a gay high school student in Mississippi. She wanted to take her girlfriend to the prom. So the school canceled the prom.

There was a bit of an uproar at that. Prom got uncanceled.

Everything fixed, right? Well as fixed as it can be after all that, anyway. So it seemed. Until she showed up for the prom this past Friday. And found the place virtually empty. The "real" prom had been moved to the next town over.

Constance says she'd heard of the other event, had asked a fellow student about it, been told that prom was "at the country club," and had taken that as a signal that she wasn't invited.

Links to further information here.

It's just so sad. And stupid. And other things.

Way to educate our children, guys.

WOW. I knew about this and knew that she showed up to a very sparse prom. But I did not know that they had a "real" prom in the next town. How very fucked up. Grow up, Mississippi! (And the rest of you homophobes, too!)

Pfft, that's just sad. How homophobic can people be?
