Internet access here is even more limited than I'd thought (there's an open network, public I think, but I'm just barely at the edge of its range), but I wanted to take this opportunity to wish anyone celebrating a Happy Thanksgiving.

A few things rattling around in my head, but they'll wait.

Instead, here's a short article from an MIT graduate student about how the turkey got its name.

(Thanks to the White House Office of Science & Technology Policy for pointing it out.)

Very interesting!

Obligatory Greek nit-picking: I'm not sure the name for turkey in Greek means "French girl". "Turkey" (the bird) and "French girl" sound the same but are spelled differently (Galopoula and Gallopoula, respectively).

Still, that was a good read. Thanks for linking. :)
