Saw Transformers tonight. That was a lot of fun. Good action, which is really what it's all about.

It was a little distracting when I realized very quickly that one of the new characters is voiced by Lenard Nemoy (and they even gave him one of Spock's more famous lines). Also, Megan Fox's replacement is a walking stick figure. Even in 3D. It's kind of scary.

Oh, and FedEx gets the best product placement, mostly because it's actually very subtle. Seriously, blink and you miss it.

I'm also fairly sure that they reused the tilting office building floor set from Spider-Man 3.

But the thing that hit me after the movie was from the beginning. Sam is out doing job interviews. In one of them, he mentions having gotten a medal from the president. The guy says, "Obama?" Sam confirms. "The thing is... We're mostly Republicans here." And that's pretty much the end of the interview. It got laughs from most of the people in the theater, me included.

And then, when I got home, I thought about it. That really says something about where we are as a country. Can you see that line having worked with any other president? Even Bush. (Though, granted, he had a proclivity for handing out praise and medals to people who'd just majorly screwed up...)

Think about that. You get a medal from the president, and the other guy says he's from the other party, so that actually counts against you. That would have been unthinkable before. Even if you disagreed with the president, there was a dignity to the office, a respect for it. But now, as far as Republicans are concerned, anything Obama touches is automatically tainted, to be despised and deplored. That's... not right. And I don't know what to do about it.

And yes. She needs to be fed. Although she is a better actress than Fox. And they treated her accordingly. lol about turning back time to give her your pizza. But I think you could find a better use for that power. ;)

She looks good in some pictures, but too skinny (mostly her legs) in others. She is definitely one of them very thin girls, though. I still haven't fully grasped how such a body is humanly possible.

Anyway! Can't form an opinion on the political part of your concerns, but I'm glad you had fun! :)

i'm going back thro your posts looking for one i meant to comment on a while ago and didnt ;p i havent found it yet. but i just saw this, which i apparently didnt see when you posted it. so... hi. ;p not sure if my thoughts on this really matter now, but i'm going to share them anyway ;)

i reallyreally enjoyed transformers as well. in fact i'd say it's the best movie i've seen all year, at least in the theater. and i watch a lot of movies (i guess). i LOVED the spock bit. i told my sister she has to watch the movie, if only for that. (also because she's obsessed with the moon landing and has a crush on alan tydyk whose name i have no idea how to spell and am too lazy to google.)

i absolutely thought of spiderman when they did the tilting office. and the other day i told david i would be terrified to work in a glass building, because i'm convinced it would get smashed by something and tilt over like that. because it's happened in every movie i can remember seeing a big glass building in. which is transformers and spiderman.

i didnt catch the republican line at all. and didnt realize the significance of it for several minutes after i read your thoughts. but i've felt that way about every president i can remember us having (EXCEPT obama, whom i admire). i've never seen much dignity in any political office. i remember my mom making a bet with my dad that she would never say the words "president" and "clinton" in the same sentence. (she's still winning.)

and for the record, i adore megan fox and was really upset that they replaced her. i thought the new girl was a lousy actress and i hope to never see her again. i didnt think she was any skinnier than megan tho.

in unrelated news....i navigated to your lj by way of your profile, and was amused and touched to see that you mentioned knights of the order of the seven dragons :)))) i may have known at some point that you put it there, but if so, i had forgotten. that made me feel all warm and fuzzy. i should make badges or something some time...

There are a lot of times and movies where that doesn't happen. You just tend to notice it less when buildings don't fall over. And it's not like the buildings are held up by glass. They have steel frames, just like every other skyscraper. They just distributed the load so that it's held more by the interior skeleton, so that they could make most of the outer walls out of glass. But even then it's not regular glass. It's nothing like the sugar glass you see in movies, that just shatters when you hit it. It's the glass they use in storm doors and such, and it's fairly thick, too.

Interesting that you've felt that way about presidents up until now. And I'm kind of surprised that you have such respect for Obama, but I'm glad to hear you do.

I just... I liked Reagan as a kid. And Bush, Sr. Even though my family is strongly Democratic. But even with Bush, Jr., whom I very much didn't like, I wouldn't even consider turning someone away just because they supported him. And yet, in this current climate, I can totally see that happening with Obama. I think it did start with Bush, Jr., where our generation learned to greatly disrespect the president, but the hatred for Obama is on a whole new level.

The President is a politician, it's true. And I don't have much respect for that profession in general. I think there are people in Congress who deserve respect (I'm proud of my Congressmen), but there are plenty who clearly don't. But there's always been something special about the presidency, at least in the subculture I grew up with. Even when criticizing Bush, there was this undercurrent: You criticize the man and the job he's doing, but you respect the office. That seems to be gone now.

Why do you adore Megan Fox? Just curious. She's hot, but I never saw anything really special beyond that. She did a decent job in the role, but it didn't call for much more than being hot and running around looking panicked. Not sure what exactly happened between her and Michael Bay, except that they had a huge falling out. But I never saw reliable word of why or whose fault it was.

Megan has curves. Nice ones. Rosie just has thin, straight limbs. Makes her legs look longer, I guess, but she's almost painfully skinny to my eyes.
