I've been on Lyrica for years. It hits different people differently. Gabapentin gives me brain fog and wooziness and all sorts of side effects. Lyrica doesn't at my current dose. Any more, and the side effects kick in. Any less, and I'm in crippling pain all day. It's the only thing that helps. And it's not causing suicidal thoughts. I've been dealing with those since long before Lyrica existed. Severe sleep deprivation makes them worse. (And Lyrica does help me sleep better, which is why I take most of it at bedtime.) Being on Lyrica has not increased them. And I don't get them at all when I'm relatively functional. This isn't a case of depression. I know what that feels like. This is carefully considered logic based on quality of life, and thought through over a long term and different moods and levels of functionality.
Fibro is tricky. It's a syndrome, not a disease. Every patient is a little different, and it takes a lot of trial and error to find what works for you and what causes unbearable side effects. I'm glad you've found something that works better for you. But I've found the best balance of meds for me.
