I never knew the dog was the same species as the wolf! I've studied some taxonomy in the university, but we covered mostly plants and, in a lesser degree, various microbes. (And I admit I still don't know what exactly constitutes enough difference to differentiate between different species, or genera, etc.. And I've always been stumped by the different breeds, as well.

Now that you mentioned, though, I did go and have a look at the taxonomy of dogs and felines. Still haven't found answers to all my questions, but at least now I've learned the taxonomy for each. ;D
